STEVEN REECE, SR.
Dr. Steven Reece., Sr. is a 35 year entrepreneur who has
spent most of his life “building a business from the bottom up.”
This businessman is also an active member in his church, New
Friendship Baptist Church, where he serves as Chairman of the Trustee
Board, Deacon, Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, Assistant
Teacher of the Men’s Sunday School, Teacher at the Cincinnati District’s
Baptist Congress of Christian Education, Chair of the 2006 Church New
Friendship Baptist Church Anniversary, and Chair of the his church’s
1998 Renovation Project. He was even selected as
New Friendship Baptist
Church’s 1998 Man of the Year. In August of 2002, Mr. Reece was
ordained by Bishop Rudolph Pringle as a Minister of Aid to Pastors.
The native
Cincinnatian, was born September 12, 1947, and has been married for 35
years to Barbara Howard Reece. The two have three children Alicia,
Steve, Jr., and Tiffany who have all graduated from college and are
working in there respective fields.
Steven Reece Sr. graduated from
Withrow High School in
1965 and was inducted into the Withrow Hall of Fame in 1993. He
graduated from Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at
Dartmouth
College
(School of Entrepreneurship), 1987; received an honorary Doctorate from
Temple Bible College,
an honorary degree from the Ohio Business College in Cincinnati, 1986;
and graduated from Leadership Cincinnati sponsored by the Greater
Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce. Students called him “Professor Reece”
for 25 years as he taught at the University of Cincinnati’s Evening
College.
His political and
public service resume is extensive as it includes serving as the
Cincinnati’s first African American Executive Assistant to Cincinnati
first African American Mayor, the late Theodore M. Berry, former
Congressional and City Council candidate, the first African American to
run for Chair of the Ohio Democratic Party, and Special Advisor to the
Rev. Jesse Jackson for President Campaigns (1984 & 1988). Mr. Reece has
also served as a political consultant to many statewide, national, and
local candidates including his eldest daughter, Alicia, who one three
elections at the top the ticket making her the youngest female Vice
Mayors in Cincinnati’s history and the first African American woman to
file to run for Mayor in the city’s history. He has also appeared in
the media as a political analysis in tune with “everyday “voters from
beauty shops to barber shops. Mr. Reece was appointed to the
State Commission on African American Males by Governor Ted Strickland on
February 12, 2007. During the NAACP 2008 Annual Convention in
Cincinnati, OH Steve Reece served as the Deputy Chair of the Local Blue
Ribbon Committee
In 1993-1995, Steven
Reece, Sr. was elected to the highest post in Prince Hall Masonry, The
Most Worshipful Grand Master of the state of Ohio. While serving in
this position he launched one of most historic and bold initiatives
along with businessman and white Masonic brother Carl Lindner, Jr.;
bringing white and black masons to a joint meeting and getting them to
recognize and respect each other. As a result, masons across the country
are visiting each others lodges, doing joint degree work, doing
community service, and working together in brotherhood. Reece also
launched a statewide bank partnership and developed a credit union
membership for the organization as well as raised hundreds of thousands
of dollars for scholarships and other Masonic programs. Currently,
Brother Reece is the Imperial Promotions Director for the Shriners of
North & South America, and he was crowned a 33rd Degree
Sovereign Inspector General (Purple Hat).
This trailblazing
visionary is the founder of "Operation Step-Up" Inc. which involves 1000
young people, and is the owner and developer of the Reece & Reece Action
& Development Complex which he and his wife turned from an empty
warehouse into a multipurpose commercial/residential complex with their
own money. The complex houses their marketing, promotion, and
consulting company; Communiplex Services, as well as their 300 seat
luxury banquet center; Integrity Hall Banquet & Conference Center, a
full services beauty salon, studio apartments, and a child care and
training center.
He and his wife have
donated thousands of dollars and donated hundreds of hours to the
community and youth and as a result, Mr. Reece is the founder and
organizer of the Family USA Convention and Youth 2000 Conference;
founder of the Communiplex National Woman's Sports Hall of Fame; founder
of Communiplex and Martin Luther King/Educational and Sports Classic;
founder and producer of the Cincinnati Public School's National
Teleconference.
This
entrepreneur, church deacon, national speaker, college professor, radio
and television host, Prince Hall Mason, and community advocate, Steve
Reece is featured in the Who's Who in Black Cincinnati and the National
Underground Railroad Freedom Center.
